Whew! This has been the busiest week I have had in a long time. My suitcases from this past weekend are still out, I haven't read the paper in three days, and the dishwasher needs emptying so I can have utensils to eat my yummy Sheryl soup with. I don't like that kind of pace--reminds me of life before "retirement".
Our book club discussed To Kill A Mockingbird today--it was our choice of a "classic" this year. It is a book that gets better each time one reads it--Harper was so spot on (I hate that term) with her southern culture, and so wonderful at character development. I must watch the film when things slow down.
I am feeling very virtuous--began Christmas shopping this afternoon--a full five weeks before I usually do. I am aiming for a sane, slower advance to the holiday with packages wrapped soon after they are bought leaving time to watch Christmas specials on TV, enjoy the music and watch all those other people who are dashing around like headless chickens. We shall see.
life as viewed by a gray-haired progressive liberal Christian grandmother who wildly loves her church, her family (especially the grandchildren)and books.

Church Chicks' Book Club
Our first meeting of the book club was today. It was so delightful. It is such a joy to be around people who like to read and who can talk intelligently about books.
Our slate for this reading year is exciting and includes several genres. That's another good thing about book clubs--one never gets stuck reading the same old thing. In the almost three years we have been together, we have read 17 books of various kinds--and always include at least one classic every year. This year's is Pride and Prejudice.
If you, dear reader, are not in a book club, I highly recommend the experience!

Book club day
Today was one of my favorite days of the month. The Church Chicks book club met. And today we met at my house.
The 11 people in my group are all Otter Members and all above 40 years of age.We have been meeting two years and have become a very cohesive group. While we don't all like the same kind of books, we all always have something to say about the month's book.
This month's book was Abide With Me by Elizabeth Strout. It is the story of a minister who almost loses his faith, his church and his children after his wife dies. Very good writing.
Sharing literary things, church things, and children things is very fulfilling, especially with this group which likes to laugh.
Thanks Ladies for a fun day!
